Overland Park ranks 2nd on the list of best places to buy a home from the website Niche. The website reviewed more than 225 of the largest cities in the country and Overland Park came in second after Plano, Texas making our local residents proud of their choice of a place to call home.
Overall in the sites report on the Kansas City metro area, Leawood, Prairie Village, Overland Park and Westwood take the top spots. Fairway, Lenexa and Shwnee came in at spots six, seven and eight. Mission Hills was at 10; Mission at 11: and Roeland Park at 13.
For those of us who live in the area we are well aware of the quality of life that exists in our communities. Homes built right after World War II to newer homes being built every year creates a place for many home buyers.
What makes a great city – what make Overland Park so livable? A balance of residential, office and retail – what is often called “smart growth” is a credit to the community. The education system is among the best in the state. With three main school districts – Shawnee Mission, Olathe and Blue Valley nationally ranked.
The city is home to a long list of corporations including Sprint, Black & Veach and Johnson County Community College. With a healthy mix of retail and offices, property taxes are some of the lowest in Kansas.
Master planning plays a significant role in the livability of Overland Park. Along with a strong sense of business, amenities abound including 83 parks and open spaces, four lakes and six sports facilities that includes a one-of-a-kind $36 million soccer facility.
By the same website, Niche, Leawood was also named best place to live in the KC metro area.
